Chicago Music Exchange staff members always have the scoop on the latest new, used, and vintage gear, and we love to tell you about it all. Check out September's Staff Picks:
"There's no mistaking this rosewood Tele! It's not trying to be anything other than what it is - a classic, beautiful guitar. It's got a super comfortable feel and I am in love with how the grain runs into a 'V' on the face. It's as much fun to play as it is to look at."
"Randy’s Revenge is all out Canadian havoc, a noise maker's paradise. Fuzz it and use the expression feature. You’re welcome."
"My pick is the Sonor 3pc Vintage kit in Natural finish. Sonor drums has always been known for its stellar quality German made beech wood shells. This kit pays homage to the incredible sounding kits that Sonor once produced in the 1960's. The teardrop lug, thin beech shell, natural wood finish and deep warm sound, make this the perfect choice for the drummer who likes a rich vintage sound with a newly designed classic look."
"The Scanner is perhaps the best effect that I have ever heard. Everything about it is cool. Check out our video of it, or better yet, get into the shop and try it for yourself!! It is super!!"
"We just started carrying Asher guitars and they’re incredible. This one is an older model custom made for Jason Mozersky and it’s a very unique guitar. The combination of a single-coil lipstick pickup and a Seymour Duncan Firebird pickup make for a nice well-balanced tone that’s got just the right amount of twang. In lieu of a three-way switch Asher borrowed the ‘60s stacked knob design from the Jazz Bass giving you an independent volume and tone control for each pickup. This guitar is like a Tele, Strat, and a Jazz Bass thrown into one gorgeous axe!"
"This Gibson LG-2 American Eagle is the perfect workhorse acoustic guitar. It may be a little guy, but as we all know--size doesn't matter. Thanks to its spruce top and mahogany back and sides, this bite-sized acoustic guitar has a rich and full sound that's perfect for any setting. From the couch to the stage, this LG-2 can do it all!"
"At first glance, this Fano may not seem too special. In which case, I would suggest cleaning your glasses, because this thang's a thing of beauty. I am a total sucker for P90's, Jaguar body styles, and anything tortoise. It's been lightly distressed and plays as comfortably as your favorite pair of jeans for it. I would dare to say it plays even BETTER than your favorite pair of jeans, because those probably aren't very loud."
"Well, he did it. Stephen Stern, as he is known to do, has built the greatest Gretsch that many of us will ever have the pleasure of playing. This Masterbuilt '55 White Penguin Relic is absolutely astounding in every respect, and it is the perfect guitar for folks who want a vibey Gretsch, but don't the problems that come with the vintage ones (deteriorated binding and prior neck resets are the first things that come to my mind). We waited two years for this guitar to be built, and it was well worth the wait!"
