Stratocaster

Stratocaster

Stratocasters are one of the most popular, and most copied, electric guitar shapes in history. The Fender Stratocaster was designed in 1954 as a solid body double-cutaway guitar with extended top horn shape and three single coil pickups. It was originally produced with a solid ash body – in 1956 Fender began issuing with alder bodies. Vintage Fender Stratocasters are highly coveted by collectors and players who prefer the timbre of older models.

Stratocasters are often selected for the high level of control – more access to higher frets, 5-way pickup selector switch, bridge springs, and tone knobs for both the middle and bridge pickups. The list of notable Strat players is almost endless, but a few major players include Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, John Lennon, George Harrison and Buddy Guy.
