When Gibson reintroduced the Les Paul in 1961, it featured a radically different, elegant design from the heavy original. While Les Paul reputedly had no hand in this redesign, the guitar that featured his name retained only the electronics layout from its predecessor. With its very thin, double-horn body shape, the new Les Paul/SG was a very different beast.
This one features a very brown finish, along with some checking on the top, showing that it’s seen a bit of sun. There’s heavy checking on the back of the neck as well. The tuners appear to be replaced with newer three-on-a-plate Klusons. With its typically wider nut width on its tapered neck, it plays smoothly, with a bit more heft behind it than most later SG Juniors. The pickup on this one is exceptional as well. This is one that stands out from most of our Juniors.
