It's Lollapalooza weekend here in Chicago, and we are pumped all around for this year's performances. Among some very obvious favorites (Paul McCartney) are other exceptional acts that we're happy to call our friends. Chicago Music Exchange loves to assist players of all levels, but our heart's skip a beat when we're gifted with the presence of a celebrity guest. Check out some of the Chicago Music Exchange veterans that will be gracing Lollapalooza's stages this weekend:
First time visitor to Chicago Music Exchange, James Bay, stopped in for a few hours yesterday evening to tour the shop. After being wow'd by our showroom and experiencing our fine repair shop, James was brought up to the CME Vault to check out some very rare, very vintage guitars. However, he couldn't get his mind off a goldtop Fano SP6 (pictured below) and brought it home with him that night.
Most know him as Radiohead's longtime drummer, but he's recently branched out with his own solo project. Philip Selway is bringing said solo project to the summer festival circuit. The fall of 2014 saw the release of his sophomore solo album, Weatherhouse, and the summer of 2015 saw a visit to Chicago Drum Exchange with Otto Hauser. The two grabbed a mix of Istanbul 30th Anniversary cymbals and Istanbul Xist ION crashes in preparation for their Friday performance.
The War on Drugs has visited the store on more than one occasion, and we're excited to see them scheduled to play Friday at Lollapalooza. Though we're sure the scale of their festival performance will be much bigger, nothing could beat their in-store performance last September. The Philadelphia-based outfit's been releasing music since 2005, and to achieve their sound, they have an extensive arsenal of gear. Check them out this evening, and let us know what they bring on stage with them tonight!
The Australian psych rockers have stopped into CME a few times in the past to dream about gear - just like the rest of us. This time around, Tame Impala's taking their gear to Lollapalooza's Samsung Galaxy Stage. They've been friends of the store since their first visit in 2011, and it's been great watching them grow into a band ready to take the stage at Chicago's biggest music festival.
Chicago Music Exchange veterans, Of Monsters and Men, take the stage on Sunday. The Icelandic indie/folk outfit can't seem to stay away from our showroom, having visited in twice in 2013.
Chicago Music Exchange has been a destination for musicians for 25 years, whether they're picking up their first guitars or have wielded one for years. One of the best things about Lollapalooza is that it gives an amazing line-up of musicians a reason to travel to the best city in the world, along with the best guitar shop. Each year, we meet someone new during festival season - stay tuned to hear who it is this year.
