January 2016 Staff Picks

Have you been wondering what gear our team is currently digging? Fret not, we're giving you the inside scoop in January's edition of Staff Picks. From electric to acoustic, amps to effects, everyone here is rocking out to something different. So, come on in and take a peek at what we're playing as we roll into 2016:

Amy Ramelli

Taylor BBT-e Big Baby in Natural with Electronics

Amy's Pick

"A Big Baby was my first guitar- and it is still the one I play most often. Still rings out clear and with plenty of warmth. In the words of Mick Jones, feels like the first time!"

Shelby Pollard

Bilt S.S. Zaftig in Surf Green w/Lollar Mini Humbuckers & Mastery Vibrato

Shelby's Pick

"When it comes to new guitars, it doesn't get much better than Bilt. This S.S. Zaftig combines a classic set of designs with modern parts. The Mastery bridge and trem system make this a great playing guitar, and the Lollar mini humbuckers accentuate all of the tonal qualities of this hollow offset. Most important of all, it looks great!"

Dan Albert

1962 Fender Precision Bass in Olympic White

Albert's Pick

"We've been fortunate enough recently to get two amazing 60's P-Bass examples. This Olympic White 1962 has a perfect textbook neck shape with a super dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard and great frets; everything works together to make the playability low and very fast. While the pots have been changed, the pickup still epitomizes all the syrupy low end thump and growl that you would expect from one of the most coveted basses in history. This guy won't last long!"

Brian Westfall

ELECTRO-HARMONIX 720 STEREO LOOPER

Brian's Pick

"Electro-Harmonix has once again done it. They've made a completely feature-packed pedal with a price that undercuts the competition all while still being made in the good 'ol US of A. For $139.99 you really can't beat the specs on this thing. Reverse, Half Speed, automatic fade out and 12 minutes of 24 bit record time are some of the standout features. Oh, great...now I have to buy another loop pedal."

Marc Najjar

1960 Fender Precision Bass in Sunburst

Marc's Pick

"When I sit down with an electric fretted instrument, I first make sure it has the right amount of resonance and feel before plugging it in. This damn thing vibrates my bones! The pickup has a great range from warm & gooey to thick and sparkly. I love the sound with the mutes on, too! FUNK MACHINE, INDEED!"

Joel Bauman

FRIEDMAN PT-20 PINK TACO 20W EL84 AMP HEAD

Joel's Pick

"Pink Taco – HA! Don't let its juvenile name fool you – this little 20w head has vintage British tone for days. With a humbucker equipped guitar, you can get all the way up to classic metal sounds, and with single coils, you can get almost Hendrix-esque clean tones. We're a new Friedman dealer and we couldn't be more excited – the full line is here (or on its way, since we've already sold through a ton), so don't hesitate to reach out to us if you're looking for that classic British overdrive sound."
