The struggle is real. We know. As a newcomer to the acoustic game, the idea of finding the perfect acoustic guitar for beginners is intimidating. Between the bounty of small body, 3/4 guitars and a sea of massive jumbo acoustic guitars, the landscape is vast—especially if you're not a seasoned strummer or fresh out of elementary school. Thankfully, the latest concept from Taylor Guitars is designed just for you—a nearly full-sized guitar built with a shorter scale and features perfectly suited for diminutive digits. Behold Taylor Academy, a series that solves all the common challenges characteristic of new and developing players, from navigating the fretboard with ease to overcoming the growing pains (no pun intended) of string tension. The series is a welcome expansion of the company's already successful GS Mini, and Baby and Big Baby models.
With a 4-3/4-inch body depth, Taylor Academy dreadnought acoustic guitars are a literal great fit for starting players, and even current players with smaller frames. For those who haven't graduated to steel-string guitars, not to worry—the series also includes steel string models with easy-playing Elixir Phosphor Bronze Light strings. Needless to say, there are plenty of options for casual strummers, classical guitar players and more. All the guitars boast sapele back and sides with a solid top for superior resonance and durability.
And beginner guitar, of course, is a vast understatement of Taylor Academy's totally gig-able feature set—it comes with a gig bag for musicians looking for an affordable and portable player's piece. The series touts plenty of cosmetic upgrades to give these babies a premium look and feel. Other series details include a 3-ring Baltic birch rosette, 4mm Italian acrylic dot fretboard inlays, matte finish, and optional ES-B electronics with built-in preamp and tuner.
