The NAMM Show 2017 Report—Day 1

There are few ways to describe the cacophony of guitars, amps, and cymbals on The 2017 NAMM Show floor. Call it insanity. Call it noise. For gear enthusiasts seeking their latest tonal fix, gear heaven probably the most appropriate phrase. Each year, hundreds of thousands of music industry patrons and fans alike flock to Anaheim, Calif., for a glimpse at the latest and greatest gear. And being the gear fiends that we are, we're always in the middle of the action.

Naturally, many of the guys at CME were out in full force getting our eager paws on some treasures for the shop. Let’s take a peek at some of our coolest finds—many of which are available for pre-order at CME now!

Stay tuned all week for great gear updates live from NAMM!

NEW PEDAL FIND: EarthQuaker Devices Space Spiral Modulated Delay Pedal

Everyone likes to pay homage to the tape delays of the past these days, and finding a gem amid these retro-inspired gems is few and far between. We’re excited to see (and hear) that the team of masterminds at EarthQuaker Devices has made it happen—and then some—with the new Space Spiral Modulated Delay. With a variable LFO waveshape and 30ms-600ms of delay time, this true-bypass, analog-voiced effects pedal conjures up blast-from-the-past modulation tones along with some serious room for experimenting. Of particular note are the “Depth” and “Rate” controls, which is where the real magic happens—toying with these controls unlocks modern textures and tones normally unaccessible in the vintage stompboxes of yesteryear. We were able to get our hands on a prototype of the Space Spiral before the storm, and our boy Joel took it on a serious galactic ride.

Check out the video below.

Best of all, this pedal is available for pre-order NOW through CME—oil can modulation fans, you won’t be disappointed!

Gretsch Players Edition

STANDOUT GUITAR RELEASE: Gretsch Players Edition

There once was a time that Gretsch leaned heartily on its historic contingent of Country & Western and rockabilly fans. But the thoughtful features and finishes on the latest incarnation of Player’s Edition guitars ventures far from these humble, pompadoured origins and into modern-day culture musical culture—and hell, color us impressed. We’re super stoked on Gretsch’s performance-grade models, especially the newest Broadkaster Jr. Center Block models in subtly cool stealthy colors (we’re loving the Bourbon Stain and Dark Cherry Stain). Notable cool factor points here: Gretsch also tapped to pickup guru Tim Shaw to develop the line’s all-new, Full’ Two new U.S.-made Full’Tron™ pickups, which inject extra mids for modern players seeking extra drive. Still, these puppies are instilled with plenty of Gretsch character. We’ve been awaiting our Gretsch fix amid rumblings of new models…and can’t wait to see what’s in store from these guys in 2017.
