The Songwriter may have been first introduced in 2003, but in combining the traditional, hand-scalloped X-bracing of the 1930s with Gibson’s original square-shoulder dreadnaught shape the Songwriter Standard is a timeless representation of the manufacturer’s long, rich history of acoustic innovation. It should come as no surprise then, with rosewood back and sides and a sitka spruce top, that it sings with a wide dynamic range and tonal quality that can only come from decades of mastery.

About Gibson Montana:
Luthier Orville Gibson founded the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co. Ltd. in Kalamazoo, MI in 1902. Its original aim was to make mandolins and mandolin-family instruments. Over the last 100-plus years, Gibson Brands, Inc., as it is now known, has since evolved into the world’s premier manufacturer of semi-hollow and hollow body electric guitars, as well as a celebrated portfolio of innovative solid-body and acoustic models.

“Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness. And they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy... or they become legend.” So wrote Montana author Jim Harrison, perhaps about the master luthiers of Gibson Montana, which produces all of Gibson’s acoustic guitars.

I recommend this product

Just what I was looking for overall sound and playability

Gorgeous guitar... IMO ... Reviews are really very relative, each guitar is different and each player is different. That said I was looking for a bright powerful gutsy acoustic that can ring with overtones and get jangly without buzzing. This guitar does it fabulously. Very old school to my ears. My playing is 80% strumming so can't talk about the suitability for flat picking etc... But I do think it has a great range of tones it responds very easily to all sorts of picking ways and playing places on the strings sounds great both strumming and playing single notes IMO. Basically It projects and it sings, there are no dead spots and with effort of the player it can have a very even sound all the way up. I love it for my purposes noted above. Picked with fingers it has a sweet sound to my ears. NOTE: no surprise different actual guitars of this model play very differently. I played one from another dealer that would not allow me to dig in very deep when strumming it just did not take that energy it had a limit on how loud it would go. The sound of that guitar was really nice but completely different to my ears it was more reserved and not as loud in the upper overtones more in the midrange, it was not quality of build or lesser quality materials it was a well made guitar like this one just sounded and felt very different, I'm glad I got this particular one. Also the case I got from CME was very nice nicer than a case I saw from another dealer which surprised me. I'm guessing dealers have a choice of what case to get because that other one was lesser well made than the one CME gave me. Super happy with the purchase and the knowledge of the guys at CME and Karl in particular who helped me with this purchase. Check this one out when you can find it!
