Founded by Leo Fender in 1938 as Fender's Radio Service, Fender guitars are some of the most recognizable musical instruments in the world. Most famous are the solid body electric guitars including the Fender Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster and the first mass-produced electric bass guitar – the Fender Precision Bass (or P Bass).
Fender also makes acoustic guitars, bass guitars, various folk instruments, and the iconic Fender amplifiers. Other well-known Fender brands include Squier and Gretsch Guitars. Many notable guitarists, both past and present, are known for playing Fender electric guitars.
We partnered with Fender VP of Product Development Mike Lewis to design the “Chicago Special,” a Tele/Strat hybrid-style pickup based on measurements taken from Sales Manager Shelby Pollard’s vintage Jazzmaster. The low-output “Chicago Special” offers clean and mellow tone with round highs and a wide-open frequency range, as heard on classic recordings by Chess Records artists like Muddy Waters and Etta James.
