Body: Spruce top with mahogany back and sides, lower bout measures 11 5/32”
Neck: Medium-V neck profile, 1 3/4” wide nut, ebony fretboard, and no inlays
Cosmetic Condition: The spruce top has held up well with some strum/pick wear near the soundhole and some checking lines emanating from below the bridge but no serious wear. The back has a fair amount of repaired cracks and braces while the sides appear to be in nice shape with only some minor blemishes. The neck has average dings and dents in it but looks very clean considering its age. The fretboard and bridge are both repro and looking good. The headstock is free of any cracks or repairs and has just a handful of small dents. This Martin Parlor has aged well and is looking very nice for a Civil War era guitar!
Playability: The strings are at medium-high action and play nicely across the board with no fretting out or buzzing.
Modifications/Repairs: Martin factory refinish, refret, repro fingerboard and bridge, open back cracks, reglued braces, one replaced/repaired tuner from another set. Guitar has had multiple loose brace repairs. Back has a humidity crack that does not affect playability.
Weight: 2lbs 12oz
Case: Original coffin case in rough shape includes envelope with paperwork & history of guitar possibly dating it to the mid-1800's and suggesting that it may have belonged to a union officer in the Civil War.
