Gamechanger Audio | Motor Synth MKII
Get The World’s First Electro-Mechanical Desktop Synthesizer!
Further proving the brand’s namesake claim, the new Gamechanger Audio Motor Synth MKII offers electronic music makers the world’s first analog synthesizer—which lets you see the sounds being generated via optical electro-mechanical oscillators! Due to the distinct way these motors create wave shapes, the Motor Synth’s sound is in a category all its own—yet, the comprehensive sound-shaping features developed by Gamerchanger’s engineers let users recreate classic synth sounds and even real instruments!
Based on a unique motor oscillator engine, the Motor Synth MKII runs on a system of eight electromotors able to instantly and precisely change their rotation speed in order to produce musical notes. Generating two separate voices with three types of optical waveshapes (sine, saw, square), an electromagnetic inductive wave (M), and an adjustable four-note polyphony, each voice can be shaped using the Motor Synth MKII’s independent controls for volume, scale, waveform, amp envelope, and pitch envelope.
Motor Synth MKII Overview
- Eight electromotor oscillator system with custom-built brushless DC motors
- Two fully independent MOTOR Voices with Separate Amp Envelope, Pitch Envelope, and Analog multi-mode Filters
- Additional third DIGITAL VOICE (DCO) with full functionality
- Powerful Modulation section with assignable mod destinations
- Built-in performance interface with ARP, SEQUENCER, and MOTION REC Engines
- MIDI & CV control
- Input Signal Processing: VOCODER, GATE, SIDECHAINING, FILTERING
How It Works
Each one of the Motor Synth’s eight motor oscillators can produce four distinct waveforms by reading wave reflections via infrared sensors and electromagnetic pickups. Featuring three “tracks” engraved onto the reflective surface, which are designed as a circular optical representation of the sine, saw, and square waveforms, each reflective “track” is paired with a separate infrared laser and sensor that picks up the reflected beam.
As the disc rotates and spins the differently shaded areas in a circular motion, the infrared reflectivity sensor begins outputting a so-called “Optical Waveform,” via a technology developed by Gamechanger Audio specifically for the Motor Synth. Meanwhile, the “M'' waveform is produced by a set of electromagnetic pickups placed next to each motor’s rotating inner coils, creating electromagnetic fluctuations that can be amplified to produce a unique motor waveform.

The Motor Synth MKII also features an additional third digital voice (DCO) with fully independent controls of all parameters, plus adjustable four-note polyphony, and other features, including:
- Proprietary virtual-analog oscillator and noise engine with waveshaping
- Dedicated multimode digital filter with extensive functionality
- Multiple routing options for Filter and Output
