Catalinbread | Tribute Overdrive Pedal
Catalinbread’s Latest Pedal Offers An All-gain Parametric EQ For Every Guitarist!
An homage to a rare and early Catalinbread pedal, the Tribute is an all-analog circuit that combines expressive, high-headroom overdrive with a powerful, flexible tone control based on the Catalinbread VariOboost semi-parametric EQ voiced for guitar—which was first designed by Catalinbread’s Founder, Nicholas Harris. Now, the Catalinbread Tribute offers guitarists of all stripes a supercharged one-band parametric EQ in lieu of a tone control, for serious tone-sculpting power!
Catalinbread Tribute Controls:
- Volume
Whether you like it loud, or need to dial it back to make room for other instruments, the Volume Control knob gives you all the decibel control you need to get your guitar right where you need it in the mix. - Frequency Control
The topmost controls on the Tribute are where this Catalinbread gets interesting. A callback to the original VariOboost circuit, the Frequency and Tone controls work in tandem to shape any guitar tone. First, select any frequency between 70Hz and 1.4KHz, then decide whether you want to cut or boost that particular chosen frequency using the Tone Control.
- Drive Control
In addition to its exacting buffer, the core of the Tribute is a drive circuit controlled using a dual-gang potentiometer. This means that turning the Drive knob affects two parameters—rather than a single parameter, like most drive pedals—at once: the clean blend, in addition to the overdrive gain. For example, with the Drive knob rolled all the way down, you get a pristinely buffered clean signal with a gentle treble filter. But, if you roll it all the way up, you get maximum gain, with no clean signal. Anywhere in between gives a carefully balanced clean-drive combination that lets your tone breathe, no matter what position the Drive knob is in. - Tone Control
After dialing in the frequency you want to pinpoint with the Frequency knob, use the Tone control–knob to either boost or cut the frequency by up to 12dB. Equipped with a center-detent potentiometer, clicking the Tone knob to noon leaves the frequency flat—i.e. nothing is boosted or cut, regardless of the Frequency knob’s position. (Put another way, setting the Tone knob at noon effectively removes the VariOboost component.)
So, whether you’re looking to dial in low-mid grunt and boost the band for some fat chord while playing rhythm guitar, or trying to inject some sparkle into your sound for soloing, or honing in on that perfect cocked wah–pedal sound to nail your cover of “Money For Nothing”—you can get all those sounds (plus, many more!) using the Catalinbread Tribute.
