GIBSON | KIRK DOUGLAS SIGNATURE SG
The Roots "Captain" Kirk Douglas beams down an out-of-this-world signature model!
Best known as the lead guitarist for live hip-hop group and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band The Roots, “Captain” Kirk Douglas is a serious shredder with a style all his own, and now he has a Signature SG to go with it.
Gibson recreates Kirk’s triple-humbucker SG Custom for 2021, unveiling its newest artist collaboration, the Kirk Douglas Signature SG, available in Inverness Green and Ebony.
Out of all the eye-catching models in Douglas’s collection, his triple-humbucker SG Custom stands out, and the new Kirk Douglas Signature SG is no different. Gibson outfits this stunning mahogany solid-body with non-locking Keystone tuners, a mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, “Captain” Lyre Tail Vibrato tailpiece, and a trio of bold BurstBucker humbucking pickups. But there’s more than meets the eye.
The unique electronics set makes this signature model more versatile than your average SG. Three-way toggle selects between the bridge pickup, neck pickup, or both. Why not the middle? Well, each BurstBucker features its own volume control with a push/pull pot. The bridge and neck push/pulls engage humbucker or single-coil mode. The middle pickup’s push/pull engages a coil-tapping function, which can be blending with one or both of the remaining pickups regardless of where the switch is. Raise or lower the whole thing with the master tone and pickguard-mounted master volume and you have full, independent control over pickup selection and output.
