Introducing | OOPEGG
For An All-In-One Showstopper, Shop the Tokyo-Based Brand That’s Blazing New Trails!
Though the brand’s name may be an acronym for “out-of-place electric guitars & gear,” OOPEGG guitars and basses fit right into the wide selection of boutique instruments available at Chicago Music Exchange from builders all across the globe! Now, CME is proud to be counted among just a handful of dealers in North America to offer OOPEGG guitars and basses!
Inspired by the original designs of vintage Japanese brands—from Teisco to Tokai—OOPEGG offset models marry the best of both worlds, both sonically and visually, combining high-quality Japanese craftsmanship with modern boutique specs to offer today’s musicians the ultimate all-around instruments!
Outside-the-Box Offsets
After years of speaking with professional musicians worldwide, OOPEGG guitar designer and sales manager Kazuma “Kaz” Tanabe developed and established these original new offset electric guitar and bass concepts, alongside a core team of just two others—including team leader Katsunori “Hakkai” Hatakeyama, a legendary roadie and effects pedal, amp, and accessories developer, as well as shop supervisor Tatsuhiro "T2" Itasaka, an experienced master luthier.
Tanabe took his technical experience to the Tokyo-based OOPEGG workshop when creating his latest models—the OOPEGG Trailbreaker Mark-1 electric guitar and Stormbreaker bass guitar—which, together, comprise OOPEGG’s Supreme Collection offset guitars now available at CME.
Supreme Collection Trailbreaker Mark-1
OOPEGG Trailbreaker Mark-1 models feature pickups hand-wound in the U.S. at Magneto Design Lab, including a Magneto Design Lab Custom-Humbucker in the bridge and neck, plus a Magneto Design Lab 2-5-SC Hot pickup in the Middle position.
Switching controls offer the standard neck/both/bridge options, while the toggle near the output socket controls the single-coil pickup. With this toggle set to the front position, guitar players can get the single-coil on its own; or, blend it with whatever the humbuckers are set to w/ the toggle in the middle position; or, flip to the back position to take the middle pickup out of the circuit.
Supreme Collection Stormbreaker
Equipped with a Guild BS-1 Bisonic in the neck position and a Serek B90 Single Coil in the bridge, OOPEGG Stormbreaker bass models offer bassists the ability to mix and match the tonal characteristics of two beloved pickup types, each controlled by Volume and Tone concentric knobs and CTS Custom Audio Pots, respectively, with a 4-way pickup rotary switch to offer a diverse array of tonal options (1: Neck, 2: Neck+Bridge, 3: Neck+Bridge w/ Passive Capacitor Filter, 4: Bridge).
