Labor of Love: Tancred
Jess Abbott, AKA Tancred, stopped by to dig on our '60s odd body vintage guitars and treated us to her tune "Clipping" from her album "Nightstand". We asked her how she got her start on guitar, what directs her style and what rig she's touring with in this episode of Labor of Love.
How did the making of music become your life? How did you get your start?
My mom had an acoustic guitar around the house growing up and I was constantly trying to teach myself how to play it. That never really let up. I started taking it more seriously in high school, and started doing it professionally when I was 18.
Who were your major influences? What guides your playing style?
My top 3 growing up were Letters to Cleo, Portishead, and the Cure. Not really sure what guides my playing style, whatever comes to me I suppose. I feel differently and play differently every couple years.
What's your rig? First guitar? Current? Any gear you can't live without?
I play a 60s Aria Diamond 1532T through a Peavey Classic 50 half stack. My first guitar was a strat style Cort I got when I was 8. Right now I play the Aria, and I have a standard Fender Telecaster and standard Fender Stratocaster as well. Couldn’t live without my Walrus Audio Mayflower. I use it for everything.
What do you or the band have coming up?
Touring with Mineral in January, so incredibly excited, I grew up listening to them.
