"Hall & Oates played quite a bit in Japan and we became pretty popular over there. One of the times, Takamine, who had just started up, set up a display backstage to see if we wanted any of their guitars. I didn't fall in love with any of the ones they brought, but I asked if they would build me one and they said 'yes'. I gave them rough specs and we continued the tour. They didn't reach back out to me and I honestly thought they forgot about it. A few years later, next time we were there, a rep showed up and handed me the finished product. It turns out that they wanted to hand deliver it to me and not just ship it because it would be more personal. Many years later, I asked the U.S. Takamine rep to update my preamp to the killer sounding version that has a 12AX7 tube in it and when I sent my guitar in, he noticed the signature of the custom builder inside the guitar and said 'That's the president of the comapany now!'." - John Oates
