This is by far the best tele I've owned, and I don't say that lightly. I'm a bit tele obsessed and have owned a lot of them in my 28 years of playing. About a decade ago I sold the previous best tele I ever owned - an american deluxe tele - due to some financial troubles at the time. I've regretted selling that guitar ever since and have been trying to find a tele that could match it since. I've bought and sold about 18 teles since then in the search, and have finally found it in this American Ultra! I previously bought an American Ultra in the Texas Tea color from another retailer, but I just did not like the rosewood fretboard on it at all, so I returned it. When I saw AMS had this one with ebony, I knew I had to have it. And the ebony is amazing, so smooth. The sound is great too! I had heard bad things about these noisless pickups, but I love them. They're so "full" - especially with the s-witch on in series mode. However, I will say that it's not super twangy in the bridge compared to some other teles I've owned. I mean, it gets twangy enough if you want to do some chicken pickin' or whatever, but it's a much milder twang. I have a Fender Vintera 50s modified and that's one of the most twangy guitars I've ever played. This American Ultra is far more versatile. Great guitar!
I finally have a Telecaster, and not just any Tele, but possibly the nicest one I've come across. I absolutely LOVE the color scheme (though I wouldn't mind a slightly lighter colored fret board - rosewood or pau ferro)! Everything about this guitar screams quality and attention to detail. It plays well and sounds fantastic! I have a Gibson SG, Epiphone Sheraton, Fender Jazzmaster, and now this Tele Ultra and so far, I think this is the best sounding guitar out of the bunch. It's certainly the best playing and best feeling out of all of them. The Jazzmaster is close, but this Tele simply kills it! Don't sleep on this one, folks.
I own 20+ electric guitars but this is my first Telecaster. I saw CME’s video and discovered these were CME’s exclusives, made with Ebony fretboards. I have a Strat Ultra from early 90s with Ebony fretboard which plays amazingly and has not worn after all these years. Upon playing the Tele Ultra, the guitar contour fit comfortably and the compound radius neck seemed intuitive to my grip and positioning. The pups were strong yet quiet and the satin feel of the back of the neck really felt smooth. I’ll need more time getting used to playing it but so far, well made with top materials. Only con is that the anodized pickguard has a rough surface texture and my picking style with my ring and pinky fingers anchored for picking on the pickguard scratched the rough surface like dragging my fingernails across a chalkboard, not a pleasant feeling. I have to clip those fingernails short and lose 2 more picking tools or change my picking style ;-) These are beautiful guitars, the tone, the ease of play, Mystic Pine sparkle, gold Fender logo, came with a great set up in a super fitted deluxe hard case, this is an amazing guitar, I love it! Thank you Kyle, CME, and awesome staff!
