Electric Guitars

About Electric Guitars

The electric guitar was invented in 1931 as a response to jazz musicians wanting to amplify their sound for the big band format. Electric guitars use pickups to convert string vibrations into electrical impulses which are then sent through a loudspeaker, or amplifier. The first electric guitar manufacturers were Rickenbacker, Dobro, National, Epiphone and Gibson.

Popular styles include solid body electric guitars, semi-hollowbody electric guitars, full hollowbody electric guitars, and chambered body electric guitars. The electric guitar – often paired with various effects and accessories – is used to produce a variety of sounds and music styles including rock-and-roll, blues, jazz, country, punk and more!
