Catalinbread | Tribute Overdrive Pedal

Catalinbread’s Latest Pedal Offers An All-gain Parametric EQ For Every Guitarist!

An homage to a rare and early Catalinbread pedal, the Tribute is an all-analog circuit that combines expressive, high-headroom overdrive with a powerful, flexible tone control based on the Catalinbread VariOboost semi-parametric EQ voiced for guitar—which was first designed by Catalinbread’s Founder, Nicholas Harris. Now, the Catalinbread Tribute offers guitarists of all stripes a supercharged one-band parametric EQ in lieu of a tone control, for serious tone-sculpting power!

Catalinbread Tribute All Gain Parametric Overdrive/Vari-O-Boost Pedal

$ 2,460.00
Ahoy ahoy, you’ve just accessed the lore of the Tribute, a pedal that literally every guitarist needs. Yes, even you, outlaw country fan, and you, person wearing indecipherable metal logo band shirt. You see, the Tribute is an all-analog circuit that combines an extremely expressive high-headroom drive engine with an obscenely powerful and flexible tone control. The back end of the Tribute pays—ahem—homage to one of our oldest designs, the VariOboost. This circuit gives you a supercharged one-band parametric EQ in lieu of a tone control for some serious studio-esque tone sculpting power. Playing rhythm? Dial in a low-mids grunt and boost that band for some fat chords. Playing leads? Flip that thing and inject some sparkle into your sound. Want to fake a cocked wah pedal to nail your cover of “Money for Nothing”? Want to simulate some Peter Green-esque out-of-phase pickups? Want your single-coils to sound like humbuckers? What about the other way around? Sure, why not? Want all of that and more? It’s time to play Tribute.

Catalinbread Tribute Controls:

  • Volume
Whether you like it loud, or need to dial it back to make room for other instruments, the Volume Control knob gives you all the decibel control you need to get your guitar right where you need it in the mix.
  • Frequency Control
The topmost controls on the Tribute are where this Catalinbread gets interesting. A callback to the original VariOboost circuit, the Frequency and Tone controls work in tandem to shape any guitar tone. First, select any frequency between 70Hz and 1.4KHz, then decide whether you want to cut or boost that particular chosen frequency using the Tone Control.

  • Drive Control
In addition to its exacting buffer, the core of the Tribute is a drive circuit controlled using a dual-gang potentiometer. This means that turning the Drive knob affects two parameters—rather than a single parameter, like most drive pedals—at once: the clean blend, in addition to the overdrive gain. For example, with the Drive knob rolled all the way down, you get a pristinely buffered clean signal with a gentle treble filter. But, if you roll it all the way up, you get maximum gain, with no clean signal. Anywhere in between gives a carefully balanced clean-drive combination that lets your tone breathe, no matter what position the Drive knob is in.
  • Tone Control
After dialing in the frequency you want to pinpoint with the Frequency knob, use the Tone control–knob to either boost or cut the frequency by up to 12dB. Equipped with a center-detent potentiometer, clicking the Tone knob to noon leaves the frequency flat—i.e. nothing is boosted or cut, regardless of the Frequency knob’s position. (Put another way, setting the Tone knob at noon effectively removes the VariOboost component.)

From Chase Bliss:

The bottomless looper.

Within this little blue rectangle is an intricate machine to explore, unravel, and make your own, with infinite opportunities and outcomes. The dream of blooper was to merge high-quality looping with creative manipulation, allowing you to steer your loops to new and extraordinary places. Record a loop one day, save, then come back and transform it on another.

On the practical end, there is loop saving, eight layers of undo and redo, and external syncing. On the creative end, there are two channels of modifiers, a lo-fi Stability control, and three looping modes. blooper’s heart is Additive mode, which allows you to record sound modifiers directly into the loop like any other overdub.

Tone Exploration | The Guitars of Bruce Springsteen

Released on September 30, 1982, Nebraska marked a radical departure for Bruce Springsteen. Recorded entirely alone on a four-track TEAC Portastudio in his Colts Neck, New Jersey bedroom, the album was never intended for release. Springsteen had planned to re-record the songs with the E Street Band, but the raw demos—haunting, intimate, and unvarnished—proved more powerful than any full-band attempt. In their imperfection, he found a truth he couldn’t recreate.
