Gibson “T-Type” Humbucking Pickups

Both CME Exclusive Les Paul Standard ’50s and Les Paul Standard ’60s come equipped with a pair of Gibson T-Type humbuckers, to provide a well-rounded top-end chime! Developed in collaboration with Chicago Music Exchange for an exclusive 2019-2021 run of CME Exclusive SG Standards, “T-Type” pickups are a replica of Gibson’s T-Top humbucker pickups used from 1968-1980—the same model pickup Jimmy Page installed in the bridge his own 1959 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst, affectionately dubbed his “No. 1,” which helped to forever define the sound of ‘70s hard rock.

Renowned for their consistency, clarity, and note definition, Gibson’s original T-Tops became known for offering brilliant chime without sacrificing low-end. Meticulous replicas of the T-Top, “T-Type” pickups feature Alnico 5 magnets, a low-to-moderate 7.45k ohm DC resistance, polyurethane insulated wire, and chrome covers, and they are built to clean up beautifully with a turn of the volume knob for incredible dynamic range and pure tone at all decibel levels.

Vintage Vibes: 1967 Gibson Byrdland Sunburst

From somewhere over the rainbow comes this badass Byrdland. A portmanteau of both Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, who designed the guitar with Gibson’s Ted McCarty, the Byrdland evolved out of the L-5 CES. The three reduced the body depth, scale length, and nut width to make a lean, mean, riff-ripping machine, equally suited for jazz, country, or rock, which Nathaniel happily demonstrates.
