Vintage Vibes: 1968 Martin D12-35 Featuring Karl Neurauter
Our acoustic guru Karl details the resurrection of this fabulous 1968 Natural Martin D12-35 into the consummate player-grade vintage gem it is today. Performing necessary repairs for an instrument of its age, our talented team of luthiers have expertly rebuilt this 12-string into an incredibly comfortable, stable, and beautiful sounding guitar. Listen to this near-50-year-old work its magic solo and in conversation with Shelby’s Les Paul.
Finish: Original finish except for touchup and over-spray on neck heel crack repair.

Neck Details: One piece mahogany neck with bound ebony board. The neck has undergone extensive repair (see Modifications/Repairs section and pictures).
Hardware: The nut is original. The tuners have been replaced. There is a strap button installed in the heel. Several of the bridge pins are slightly mismatched. The pick guard is not original.
Weight: 4 lbs 14.8 oz
Modifications / Repairs: -The guitar has had a neck reset and been refretted. When the neck was reset, the tongue was completely removed from the neck. As a result, there is a gap in the binding at the 12th fret. -All of the neck binding has been reglued. -The neck heel has been extensively repaired. The lower half of the neck heel was cut off and replaced at some point. The neck heel was then over-sprayed. Later, a larger crack occurred in the heel above this repair. This crack has been glued and lightly touched up. -There is a repaired hairline crack in the back of the body near the neck heel. -There is a repaired crack in the treble side shoulder of the body starting at the neck heel. -There are repaired cracks on either side of the fingerboard tongue in the top. -There is a small hairline crack in the tongue end of the fingerboard and a small chip of ebony missing between the 16th and 17th frets. This is not affecting playability. -Several of the back braces have been reglued. -The bridge has been reglued. -An under-bridge transducer pickup has been installed. -The tuners have been replaced. -A strap button has been installed in the neck heel. -The pick guard has been replaced.
