Incredible value

Have I lucked out this time? I dare to think so. My drummer husband went hi hat-shopping at Chicago Music Exchange and I, who still would like to have a good humbucker guitar without spending a fortune, spotted this CME-exclusive “transparent cherry” Epiphone Les Paul in the store. Being weary of common budget guitar issues, I decided to also — for pure testing purposes — try out a $5,000 Gibson (so overpriced!) and took both to the testing room. Now, a guitar’s sound is 95% in the player’s hands, and what doesn’t resonate with one player might be the perfect match for another. To me, the pricier guitar felt completely stiff and unresponsive. The Epiphone had a singing quality before I plugged it in, and it has incredible action. Plugged in, the bridge pickup especially had great character. (I have a set of JB pickups for the neck or both that I could use as a possible replacement.) Then I noticed two issues that made me worry: a slight crackling sound when switching to the middle pickup, and chords sounding out of tune going up the neck. As they do a setup with the purchase, I voiced my concerns and they took it to their luthier… after 20-30 minutes, I plugged it in again and the issues were gone. Well, I have 30 days to test it, but I think I’ve made a great find. The price? 475 friggin’ dollars before tax. I’m hoping there won’t be any negative surprises with this guitar. So far, it’s very inspiring to play.

Awesome guitar

Love th setup, the pickups and the sound. For a solid body, it doesn't weigh as much as I thought, and it just plays perfectly. The color and the feel is spectacular and I truly think and feel this guitar is worth more than what I paid for it. Beautiful sounding and looking geetar.
