Description

Elegance, power, and pure late-60s attitude

The 1968 Les Paul™ Custom Reissue, Light Aged, Ebony Top, Gold Back, brings one of the most celebrated instruments from Gibson’s first Golden Age back into the spotlight with exceptional authenticity. Part of the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection, it reflects the creativity, historical knowledge, and deep craftsmanship that define the Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. Inspired by years of Made to Measure builds and the requests of devoted players and collectors, this reissue captures the elegance, power, and unmistakable presence of an original late 60s Custom, while offering the reliability and precision of modern luthiery.

Finished with a hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer in classic Ebony Top, Gold Back, the Murphy Lab Light Aged finish gives it the look of a long-cherished and well-cared-for vintage original. Multi-ply binding on the top and back outlines the body’s sculpted maple top and solid mahogany back, a combination that delivers the balance, clarity, and authority that defined the Les Paul Custom’s sound during the late 60s.

Its long neck tenon and Authentic 1968 neck profile provide a comfortable playing feel, enhanced by an ebony fretboard equipped with mother-of-pearl block inlays, reissue medium jumbo frets, and single-ply binding. The scale length of 24.75 inches and a 12-inch radius work together to deliver smooth, controlled responsiveness, from expressive bends to articulate rhythm work.

A matched pair of T-Type humbucker™ pickups supplies the tonal muscle. These pickups offer the snappy top end, clear midrange, and tight low-end definition historically associated with late 60s Gibson designs. With two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way pickup selector switch, the guitar provides everything from crisp cleans to thick, singing sustain.

Nickel hardware complements the aging and finish, anchored by an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece for dependable intonation and resonance. Kluson® Waffleback® tuning machines complete the historically accurate and unmistakably Custom aesthetic. Black plastics, black Witch Hat knobs, and the unmistakable headstock adornments, including the Gibson logo and Custom split diamond rendered in mother of pearl, underscore its refined character.

Each instrument includes a Certificate of Authenticity and a 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue hardshell case, making it a compelling choice for players, collectors, and fans of Gibson’s late 60s craftsmanship. The 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue, Light Aged, Ebony Top, Gold Back is a tribute to legacy, a celebration of artistry, and a reminder of why the Les Paul Custom remains one of the most iconic electric guitars ever made.
