The J-45 50s takes inspiration from the legendary J-45 acoustic guitars made during the 1950s. With its extra-long pickguard, chunky neck profile, silkscreen logo, and white button tuners, this guitar looks like it came out of the 50s while being loaded with modern electronics. All the tonewoods remain consistent with the original design of the J-45, with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a rosewood fretboard and bridge. The J-45 50s features scalloped x-bracing underneath the top, which gives structural integrity to the spruce against the tension of the strings while making the guitar resonate freely.

This Gibson Custom Select J-45 50s brings player-focused upgrades that make this guitar sound more like a vintage example while incorporating modern, top-of-the-line electronics so that sound translates to the stage and studio. Typically found on the Gibson Custom 1942 Banner J-45, red spruce is prominently featured on the top and the X-bracing. All these high-quality tonewoods are married to each other using hide glue, which is another feature typically found on a 1942 Banner J-45. Utilizing an L.R. Baggs™ HiFi pickup system, this guitar produces a natural tone through an amplifier or PA system. This HiFi pickup system is non-invasive to the acoustic tone of the guitar, even with it being mounted directly to the bridge plate. This lightweight pickup system retains the natural sound of the guitar while reproducing the iconic sound that made the J-45 so famous. The Wide Vintage Sunburst finish makes this guitar look even more vintage, with the edges of the finish extending closer to the edge of the guitar.
