When Jimmy Webster began consulting for the Gretsch company in the 1950s, he spearheaded the implementation of custom colors, bridging the gap between the car craze and popular music during the golden era of guitar design and establishing himself as Gretsch’s “idea man.” And, when the time came to design his ultimate dream guitar in 1954, the first Gretsch G6136 Falcons took flight.
With their gold hardware, sparkly binding, and now-iconic winged headstocks, Gretsch never intended to produce the model commercially. But, as legendary guitarists like Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and John Frusciante, among others, have continued taking up the gauntlet to tame these majestic raptors, Webster’s crowning design achievement has remained a mainstay in the Gretsch lineup ever since the vintage originals debuted!
Handcrafted by Master Builder Chad Henrichsen—a 15-year veteran at Gretsch Custom Shop specializing in crafting custom necks—this Master Built Custom Shop Gretsch G6136T-59 “Black Falcon” reminds us why these guitars have remained some of the most celebrated models of all time!
Equipped with TV Jones Classic pickups and an Aged Black gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, this G6136T-59 Falcon features the Custom Shop’s New Old Stock (NOS) aging treatment and comes equipped w/ a Standard “U” maple neck with Gold Sparkle binding, plus a 12”-radius ebony fretboard w/ 22 frets.
