Summary
 

Finish: The neck was oversprayed many years ago; the body finish appears to be original, but may have been oversprayed at one point as well.

Body Material: Ash

Body Details: Solid one piece ash body. There are eight filled holes on the back of the body; There are a few filled holes under the pickguard, both from the original pickguard and the nail holes. There is a 1.5" cosmetic crack on the top of the body, along the bottom edge. There is a date of October 1954 marked on masking tape inside the control cavity.

Neck Details: Bolt-on one piece maple neck with maple fingerboard, dot inlays, skunk stripe, and heel-adjust truss rod. The neck has been refretted and the nut replaced, and was oversprayed long ago. The original nut is included in the case. The neck heel has a "T-G-8-54" pencil marking.

Electronics: Original Fender single coil pickups with black bobbins and cloth leads; the neck and middle pickup have been rewound and the coils protected with black electrical tape. The bridge pickup winding is original. The 3-way selector switch has been replaced, with the original included, and the master volume pot is not original. Original neck and middle pickup tone controls, with 1954 date codes.

Pickup Measurements: 7.8k (neck), 7.5k (middle), 5.8k (bridge)

Hardware: The pickguard, pickup covers, knobs, and switch tip were replaced with parts from a 1957 Stratocaster. The nut and strap buttons have also been replaced.

Cosmetic Condition: This vintage Fender Stratocaster shows heavy play wear from decades of use. The body finish is heavily worn, and the top edge of the treble cutaway is heavily worn through to bare wood. There are eight filled holes on the back of the body, along with the rectangular outline of a sticker. There is also a 1.5" crack on the top of the body, along the bottom edge; it is not threatening the integrity of the body in any way. The fingerboard shows heavy finger wear, and the back of the neck is comfortably worn. There is light consistent checking across the glossy neck finish and worn body finish.

Tech Notes: The guitar plays well with low action and optimal neck relief, and the frets are tall with minimal wear. The serial number, neck date, pot codes, and body markings date the guitar to late 1954.
